One disadvantage of wanting to write songs when you're eight (I did too) is that one's not eager to learn the piano despite the lessons. My teacher wanted me to play Czerny and scales. Did yours?

Martin,
So great to hear from you! That's wild and amazing! I'm so happy to meet another kindred spirit, composing songs at the piano at age 8! Did you ever learn the Czerny and scales? I was mostly learning Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata, scales, stuff like that. A part of me now wishes I would've learned the classical stuff, and been more focused, but I think you and I were just meant to write songs and express our inborn creative songwriting sparks. Do you still remember the songs you wrote?

love,

Q

How long have you been singing for? You are fantastic

What a great question! Since I could make a sound, probably. I specifically remember singing songs when I was 7/8 years old, in my parent's den, composing at the brown ivory-keyed piano, writing songs, instead of practicing Fur Elise and Debussy. The great thing about singing is you're always discovering new things in your voice. Singing is so natural, such an incredible expression of human emotions. I think you are fantastic too. Are you sure I didn't pay you to say this? I must've slipped you a 20.

Q

How do you receive your inspiration for your music?

Sheri Miller responded on 05/27/2011
A

When I write music, I do my best to remain an open channel, and almost step aside from myself. With no ego. I feel like I'm almost a messenger or a vessel translating a song, from someplace out there. I do my best to get out of my own way. And I listen with big ears. I read with wide eyes. I watch the world passionately. I'm constantly open to receiving new information. Alot of my songs happen really fast, as if they were already written. "Right Here, Right Now" happened in 20 minutes. Complete. I think inspiration is available to us all. If we let it in.

Thank you so much for asking, Ammoore! I'm inspired by your inspiration question!

Q

Sheri,
If the release of Winning Hand generates enough interest...would you consider touring?
Love what you do, thank you

Hi Larry,

Most fantastic to hear from you. Thanks for asking. Yes, I would love to tour. I adore playing live. If it makes sense to tour, with another band, or as a string of house concerts, that would be great. Would you be interested in maybe helping to put together some house concerts in your area? That could be a good thing!

Sending you good vibes to you from a rainy day here in NY, (daresay i love the rain),

xoxo

What are your favorite hobbies?

when i'm not writing new songs and creating music, i love astronomy, star-gazing, running by rivers and parks, eating fine Scandinavian cheeses and imported Italian pastas and mozzarellas, learning how to play exotic instruments, taking candy from strangers, watching Curb your Enthusiasm, and X-Files re-runs at 2 am, learning about monkeys (and hopefully playing with a baby orangutang or chimp one day), being inspired by the art of Gaudi in Barcelona and Chagall in France. i could go on...
